WheelUP emits 'Inner Light', his album featuring previous triple-track single Magnetic with Sio, Juggle, and Flash feat. Abacus.

The album marks WheelUP's evolution, spiritual and sonic, breaking from his celebrated broken beat legacy to explore new frontiers in his production. The album’s title track, 'Inner Light', sits centrepiece in the album, pulling together its dynamic, high-spirit threads with global groove overtones and sax-led strut.

'Inner Light' is centred around “the guiding life force (what is called Chi energy in Eastern cultures),” WheelUP explains, emitting positive energy through thoughts, decisions and actions. He adds “The project represents a musical vibration that aligns with my own inner light.” 'Inner Light', ventures into house and disco cuts, alongside WheelUP’s signature mastery of broken beat production, showcasing his resourceful artistry and genre-spanning vision. “I think my sound is in constant evolution,” he adds.

Under Tangled Silence
Djrum

mood: cutting shapes

label: houndstooth

genre: electronic

style: techno, broken beat, drum n bass

listen on tidal | apple music

“We go through life. We shed our skins. We become ourselves.”

This line from Patti Smith was going round and round Felix Manuel’s head as he gradually constructed Under Tangled Silence, his first album in six years and a record of a literal creative rebirth. Felix originally began it in earnest in 2020 Covid lockdown, but a catastrophic hard-drive meltdown destroyed almost all his work and sent him close to psychic collapse himself. However, ultimately this pushed him to rebuild from scratch and in so doing to confront and reassess every part of his musical and psychological processes.

The result is utterly extraordinary. Felix was a child prodigy as an instrumentalist and his advanced musicality has always been prominent in his music, but here he has put himself front and centre as pianist, harpist and more. And this sense of exposure as a performer interweaves with an unflinching emotional openness too. Where sometimes electronic production as advanced as this can use intellect and techniques as shields from soul-baring, this is the sound of someone who can boldly say “I feel things, I cry all the time, and I'm not afraid to say it or show it in the music.”

The Ecliptics
VoltageCtrlR

mood: day thinking

label: audible objects

genre: electronic

style: analog modular synthesis

listen on tidal | apple music

The Ecliptics is the latest sonic offering from composer and technologist Shiro Fujioka aka Voltagectrlr, blending analog circuitry with ancestral memory. These compositions are drawn from the animated short films of The Frequenseers—an Afrofuturist mythos where sound, spirit, and science converge.

Released on 5.12.25, under the Full Moon in Scorpio, the timing is no coincidence. As a Scorpio sun, Fujioka channels the deep emotional undercurrents and transformational energy of this moon phase into each track, crafting a frequency ritual encoded with intention.

The album features analog modular synth performances and layered compositions using the Elektron Digitone, Digitakt, Syntakt, Analog Four, Analog Rytm, and Analog Heat +FX, all accompanied by jazz drum loops, chopped breaks, and cinematic textures.

The Ecliptics is a journey through lunar portals, vibrating at the edge of rhythm and resonance—made to move bodies and awaken memory.

Faith
Purelink

mood: day thinking

label: peak oil

genre: electronic

style: ambient, experimental, dub techno

listen on tidal | apple music

Sailing beyond the boundaries of electronic music, Purelink embrace liquidity on their second album, washing live instrumentation and exposed vocals over their patented cascade of dubbed ambience and ebbing rhythmic experimentation. Since 2020, Tommy Paslaski (aka Concave Reflection), Ben Paulson (aka kindtree) and Akeem Asani (aka Millia) have channeled their most euphoric musical whims into the Purelink project. Drifting between brittle '90s drum 'n bass and dub techno on their cult debut 12" 'Bliss / Swivel' and vaporizing Windy City jazz and post-rock motifs with muggy soundscapes on 2023's critically revered first full-length 'Signs', the trio have managed to define a painterly signature sound that's reflective but not reverent. Sure, Purelink's music can be graceful and bucolic, but it's powered by their innate devotion to the dancefloor's soundsystem.

'Faith' illustrates a period of upheaval for the three friends; relocating from Chicago to New York City, they found themselves surrounded by new scenery and fresh inspirations that permeated their compositions as they adapted to the change. On their previous records, the production process was relatively simple, just three laptops jacked into an interface in Paslaski's living room. Here, they augment the intermixed electronics with acoustic and electric timbres, opening up space for vocal contributions from Hyperdub luminary Loraine James and poet Angelina Nonaj. "Always time for rest," James ponders candidly on 'Rookie', "we settle." Her voice floats like smoke over the trio's familiar pattering rhythms and light-headed synths, now enhanced by capsized guitar motifs and subtle bass plucks.

Through The Wall
Rochelle Jordan

mood: cutting shapes

label: empire

genre: electronic

style: contemporary r&b, deep house, progressive house

listen on tidal | apple music

"Between the alt-R&B vocals and the pop hooks of Rochelle Jordan’s songs is always a story, and the British Canadian singer-songwriter loves to whisk that tale into one that keeps you on your toes. Through the Wall, her follow-up to 2021’s Play With the Changes, is led by the singles “Doing It Too,” “Crave,” and “Sweet Sensation,” all three of which adequately sample her allure on a dancefloor. Perhaps the biggest story told across Through the Wall isn’t one of other characters for the listener to slip into, but an autobiography of sorts about her resilience as she plots her comeback in real time.” - Pitchfork

Too Much Knobs And Cables
The People In Fog

mood: cutting shapes

label: sound of vast

genre: electronic

style: house, deep house, tech house

listen on tidal | apple music

DJ Sodeyama returns to Sound Of Vast under his The People In Fog guise this June with the nine track 'Too Much Knobs And Cables' LP.

Over the past three decades DJ Sodeyama has been a staple in Japan's underground and beyond across the globe as a DJ and releasing material under his own name via the likes of Radio Slaves' Rekids, Dynamic Reflection, Nina Kraviz' трип and more. Here though, he makes a welcome return under his The People In Fog alias to Tokyo's Sound Of Vast, the platform that's played host to all of his material under this alias as well as others like The Mole, Shinichiro Yokota, San Proper and more.

Across the nine-track 'Too Much Knobs And Cables' LP, The People In Fog once again radiantly showcases his depth and understanding of true underground sounds. From the classic Deep House aesthetic of opener 'Red Morning', 'CC Love' and 'New Life' to more classic Chicago House inspired cuts like 'Animal Kingdom', 'Jack Out' and filtered Disco house jams like 'Dance To The Air', 'New Life' and 'Miraval'.

Clay
Herbert & Momoko

mood: day thinking

label: strut records

genre: electronic, funk/soul

style: deephouse, neo soul

listen on tidal | apple music

Matthew Herbert and drummer/ vocalist Momoko Gill release Clay via Strut in June 2025. A soulful, elastic collaboration, Clay treads nimbly between the dancefloor and the more introspective moods of the early hours, both reminiscent of Herbert’s iconic album Around The House while taking off in a compelling new direction. Agile and open-hearted, Clay is a thrilling, sonically adventurous record from two of the UK’s most forward-thinking artists.

Orbiting around Herbert’s fleet-footed productions and the ingenuity of Momoko Gill’s dexterous, melodic writing, Clay is at once stripped-back and rhythmically complex, drawing on a variety of found sources - from japanese kotos to basketballs - to give the sound an unmistakably organic feel.

Bringing together original sampling techniques, live improvisation and lush, expansive arrangements, Clay is lifted into higher realms by Momoko Gill’s intimate vocal performance, soaring wide-winged across the album’s eleven tracks, whether on the euphoric melancholia of ‘Mowing’ or the emotive duet ‘Heart’.

Soothsayers
Olga Wojciechowska

mood: day thinking

label: a strangely isolated place

genre: electronic

style: ambient, idm, downtempo, bass music, drum n bass

A Strangely Isolated Place presents a long-lost collaboration between Polish artists Olga Wojciechowska and Tomasz Walkiewicz as Monoparts—a partnership formed many years ago that resulted in an album once destined to remain unreleased.

Olga Wojciechowska, known for her modern-classical masterpieces such as Infinite Distances (2019) and Unseen Traces (2020), as well as her 2022 collaboration with Scanner, breaks all known expectations with Soothsayers. In a dramatic departure, Olga unveils a new and unexpected side, debuting her haunting vocals—a delicate, spellbinding performance that recalls the golden era of trip-hop, and comparisons to the sounds pioneered by Tricky, Massive Attack, and Martina Topley-Bird.

With Tomasz adding layers of depth through intricate beats and electronics, Olga’s voice becomes the emotional core of the record, conjuring an intimate and nostalgic atmosphere.

In Olga’s own words: "This album is like becoming one with the earth itself—feeling the rawness of the wood, tasting the earth in your mouth, and sensing the presence of ancient spirits. The music carries a deep, primal energy, like being part of the forest, with creatures watching you from the shadows."

To complete the journey, ASC lends his signature touch with a stunning drum’n’bass reinterpretation, amplifying the album’s nostalgic essence. Soothsayers emerges as a spellbinding ode to times gone by, in more ways than one.

Friend
james K

mood: day thinking

label: ad 93

genre: electronic, pop

style: abstract, experimental, trip hop, dream pop

listen on tidal | apple music

a𝓈𝓀 𝓂𝑒 𝒶𝒷𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓂𝓎 𝒹𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓂𝓈.

You leave her a voicemail and everyone hears it. A version of james K slides through the valueless material “real” with fists full of melancholic ecstasy. Song collapses the unending mist around us, in a world of intensity and pain, confusion and loss, like a lung filling playfully, that makes us more sensitive, opens more wounds, to lay a path for mutual mending. She plucks a coiling, gaseous halo from the air, steadying the tempest with lulling, heaven-kissed sounds, and comes as a balm to our desperate hearts with her timeless offering, 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥- to make some light of this gum pink fog.

HUMANiSE
HAAi

mood: cutting shapes

label: mute records

genre: electronic

style: synth-pop, experimental

listen on tidal | apple music

HAAi returns with her bold and brilliant second album, HUMANiSE, exploring the sweet spot between machine-led dystopia and emotion-filled utopia.

In all of her work, Teneil has always sought to conquer new frontiers in electronic music, and on the new album, she’s drilling deeper into the grid. HUMANiSE reckons with what it is to be human in an increasingly digital world, as AI threatens to eclipse everything and our screens separate us from each other. The result is an ambitious and thrilling epic: embodying a sonic step up, and a distinct evolution from her 2022 debut, Baby, We’re Ascending.

Odd Numbers / Số Lẻ
Le Motel

mood: tuning in

label: balmat

genre: electronic

style: ambient, new age, field recording, experimental

listen on tidal | apple music

It took a village to create Le Motel’s Odd Numbers / Số Lẻ. Beneath its pulsing, shimmering tones, the record is alive with the sounds of everyday life—purring mopeds, idle whistling, the din of kitchens and whisper of rain, voices joyful and contemplative, scenes of bustling cities and domestic intimacy.

Le Motel—who runs the Brussels-based record label Maloca—gathered sounds, photographs, and videos while traveling in Vietnam in 2023. From Hanoi he ventured to Hmong communities in the mountains near the border with China, building out a network of contacts gathered from friends and friends of friends. But Odd Numbers / Số Lẻ—which takes its title from traditional Vietnamese numerological beliefs and customs—is wholly unlike the extractive product typical of exploitative modes of Western tourism; the album’s final shape was deeply dependent upon the participation of the people the artist met in Vietnam.

GULP
Facta

mood: cutting shapes

label: wisdom teeth

genre: electronic, jazz

style: ambient, house, techno

listen on tidal | apple music

Facta returns to Wisdom Teeth with ‘GULP’: a zippy, hi-def mini-album full of scrambled vocals, blown-out basslines, dripping synths and spring-loaded grooves that together map out his playfully psychedelic corner of contemporary club music.

Written in a quick creative burst in late 2024, the record brings together a range of the producer’s distinct creative strands into a sharp, cohesive whole. Sitting snugly within the stylistic niche carved out by his A&Ring and DJ sets (alongside label co-founder K-LONE), we hear the influence of 00’s minimal, tech house, UK soundsystem music, ambient electronica, dub and more rubbing shoulders in a way that feels effortless and personal. Many of the tracks began life as sketches penned on the road - dotting between festivals, European club shows, and on tour in Japan - and so the record carries with it a sense of movement and forward momentum, and feels populated by voices, memories, people and places.

Stochastic Drift
Barker

mood: day thinking

label: smalltown supersound

genre: electronic

style: techno, ambient

listen on tidal | apple music

"On his second LP, the Berlin-based musician opens himself to chance and presents a vision of techno that harnesses randomness for all its potential. He emerges a more remarkable musician than ever."

- Pitchfork (Best New Music)

"For all its cerebral themes and complex processes, Stochastic Drift never once falls victim to stiff inaccessibility. Perhaps it’s the human element driving its reflective, evolutionary spirit, but Barker’s bright avant-electronica resonates with a kind of healing energy, a feeling that can come from unburdening the weight of expectation and just going with it."

- Bandcamp Daily (Album of the Day)
