7 Caminos - lagartijeando

Mati Zundel aka Lagartijeando returns to Wonderwheel with his new album 7 Caminos, representing the paths of choices in life that shape our destiny. In pursuit of this creative vision, Mati moved to Cholula, Mexico, where he composed and produced this new work, drawing inspiration from the landscapes and cultures of Latin America. The album reflects the warmth of its people, the mysteries of its mountains, and the contrasts of its rich history, blending magical realism with the modern world - Electronic music with traditional Folkloric.

The journey of 7 Caminos began in the lush jungles of Tarapoto, Peru. There, Mati immersed himself in a transformative spiritual process at the Taki Wasi Center, working closely with traditional healers. "I needed time to rethink life from another angle," Mati explains. During his time at the center, he collaborated with the healers, recording an album that featured their ceremonial songs, called Ikaro. It was in this unique environment that the first compositions for 7 Caminos emerged. As Mati recalls, “In the jungle, the message that came to me was that I had to follow my feelings more than my thoughts.”

After completing this profound personal journey, Mati returned to Mexico, the birthplace of Lagartijeando, to begin the next stage of his creative process. The compositions for 7 Caminos are rooted deeply in emotion, with a strong emphasis on melody, brought to life, with the help of Manu Quintans, a multi-instrumentalist who contributed violin, Andean winds, guitar, and charango, essential elements that infused the album with the folkloric spirit of South America.

The rhythmic production on the album also received international contributions, with Leo Leobons from Brazil, Fede Estevez from Argentina, Pablo Vicencio from Ecuador, and Rafael Echegoyen from Uruguay adding their unique perspectives to the songs. This collaborative effort infused 7 Caminos with a fresh energy, balancing the organic roots of the music with modern Electronic rhythmic innovation.

In 7 Caminos, Lagartijeando masterfully weaves together Cumbia, Folktronica, Andean folk, and global rhythms, and modern Dance music - creating a rich tapestry of sound that invites listeners to explore not just the external landscapes of Latin America, but also the inner emotional worlds we all carry.
