HIDDO DHAWR - Sahra Halgan

HIDDO DHAWR - Sahra Halgan

Sahra Halgan, a legendary artist from Somaliland in the Horn of Africa, has a story deeply tied to her homeland's fight for independence, a status claimed since 1991 but unrecognized globally. During the 1980s, amidst a brutal war against a dictatorship, she earned the name "Halgan," meaning "fighter," as her music resonated with and inspired her people. After seeking refuge in France, she formed a group in Lyon alongside Aymeric Krol, Maël Salètes, and Régis Monte. Her third album, Hiddo Dhawr ("Preserve Culture"), is a remarkable fusion of Somali musical traditions and innovative rock, bringing a fresh perspective to global music. The album shares its name with the cultural center she established in Hargeisa in 2013, dedicated to celebrating and safeguarding Somaliland’s heritage.
